8 Pillars of Self-Esteem Part 2 – Positive Attitude
Martial Arts Students learn to develop a “yes I can” attitude in everything that they do. That development begins by building confidence that goals can be achieved through a combination of hard work and belief in self.
Through the martial arts, students learn to turn negative self-talk into encouraging self-talk. The word “can’t” is not allowed in our school. Instead students are encouraged to explain exactly what steps are needed to achieve the goal. Now instead of saying “I’m not good at this,” students learn to tell themselves “I can do this if I do _______.”
This change in attitude translates into everyday life outside of the dojo. Instead of saying “I’m not good at math” or “I hate reading,” students learn to creative a positive attitude and direct themselves to create steps to become a better student at school.
